Calcium Hydroxide

                   Ca(OH)2                MW= 74.1
DEFINITION
Calcium hydroxide contains not less than 95.0 per cent and not more than the  equivalent of 100.5 per cent of Ca(OH)2.

 CHARACTERS

Sodium Hydroxide

             NaOH                                          MW= 40
DEFINITION
Sodium hydroxide contains not less than 97.0 per cent and not more than the  equivalent of 100.5 per cent of total alkali, calculated as NaOH.

 CHARACTERS

Paracetamol preparation

Chemical Structure

Synonyms: Acetaminophen ; N-Acetyl-p-aminophenol ; N-(4-Hydroxyphenyl
 Theory

Mefenamic Acid Tablets

Action and use
Cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor; analgesic; anti-inflammatory.
Content of mefenamic acid, C15H15NO2
95.0 to 105.0% of the stated amount.
  Assay
Weigh and powder 20 tablets. Dissolve a quantity of the powdered tablets containing 0.5g of Mefenamic Acid in about 80ml of warm absolute ethanol previously  neutralised to phenol red solution alternating between heating and ultrasound to aid  dissolution. Cool, add sufficient of the neutralised absolute ethanol to produce 100ml, mix well and titrate with 0.1M sodium hydroxide VS using phenol red solution as  indicator.
Each ml of 0.1M sodium hydroxide VS is equivalent to 24.13 mg of C15H15NO2.

Hydrogen Peroxide Solution (6 percent)

Action and use
Antiseptic; deodorant.

 Preparation
 Hydrogen Peroxide Mouthwash
DEFINITION
Hydrogen Peroxide Solution (6 per cent) is an aqueous solution of hydrogen  peroxide containing not less than 5.0% w/v and not more than 7.0% w/v of H2O2  (34.01), corresponding to about 20 times its volume of available oxygen. It may  contain a suitable stabilizing agent.
CHARACTERISTICS

Limit Test for Sulphates

All solutions used for this test must be prepared with distilled water R.

Add 3 ml of a 250g/l solution of barium chloride R to 4.5ml of sulphate standard  solution (10ppm SO4)R1. Shake and allow to stand for 1 min. To 2.5 ml of this  solution, add 15ml of the solution to be examined and 0.5ml of acetic acid R.  Prepare

· Limit Test for Chlorides

To 15ml of the prescribed solution add 1ml of dilute nitric acid R and pour the mixture as a single addition into a test-tube containing 1 ml of silver nitrate solution R2. Prepare a standard in the same manner using 10ml of chloride standard  solution (5 ppm Cl)R and 5 ml

Limit Test for Calcium

All solutions used for this test should be prepared with distilled water R.
To 0.2ml of alcoholic calcium standard solution (100ppm Ca) R, add 1ml of  ammonium oxalate solution R. After 1min, add a mixture of 1ml of dilute acetic  acid  R and 15ml of a solution containing the prescribed quantity of the substance  to be examined and shake. Prepare a standard in the same manner using
